M-lattice: a novel non-linear dynamical system and its application to halftoning

چکیده
This paper presents a novel non-linear dynamical system called the \M-lattice system". This system is rooted in the reaction-diiusion model, rst proposed by Turing in 1952 to explain the formation of animal patterns such as zebra stripes and leopard spots. The M-lattice system is closely related to the analog Hoppeld network and the cellular neural network, but has more exibility in how its variables interact. In particular, the model is well-suited to a variety of applications formulated as constrained non-linear optimization. The present study demonstrates the use of this model for two diierent image halftoning examples. The rst example synthesizes a halftone of Einstein in the \hand-drawn" style of the Wall Street Journal portraits ; it illustrates how a more exible quality metric can be used when the binary requirement is stated as an explicit constraint. The second example synthesizes halftones free of correlated artifacts; it illustrates the noise-shaping capability of the M-lattice system.

متن کاملOrientation-sensitive Image Processing with M-Lattice - A Novel Nonlinear Dynamical System
Researchers in image processing have long recognized the importance of modeling the human observer. Although a full human vision model remains elusive, orientation detection , one of the key components of human vision, can be directly incorporated into a variety of image processing algorithms. Orientation detection also provides cues that allow an algorithm to adapt to inhomogeneities in images...

متن کاملSimulation and Control of Rotational Vibration of Sprayer Boom Using a Novel Suspension System
Sprayers are important tools in agriculture that usually moved on the field by tractor. Sprayers should distribute the constant rate of chemicals during various conditions encountered in the field. Unwanted vibrations of sprayer boom cause redaction of its life time and over doses and under doses of chemical sprayed on the field. Therefore, in this study a model of suspension system for rotatio...
متن کاملCONTROL OF CHAOS IN A DRIVEN NON LINEAR DYNAMICAL SYSTEM
We present a numerical study of a one-dimensional version of the Burridge-Knopoff model [16] of N-site chain of spring-blocks with stick-slip dynamics. Our numerical analysis and computer simulations lead to a set of different results corresponding to different boundary conditions. It is shown that we can convert a chaotic behaviour system to a highly ordered and periodic behaviour by making on...
